Welcome to VE Global
VE Global is a different kind of volunteer organization. With no volunteering fee and a philosophy of greater opportunity for both the volunteers and the children we serve, VE Global recruits and trains international volunteers to implement educational programs and act as positive role models for at-risk children in Santiago, Chile. Our projects are created out of a desire to bring equality of opportunity to the children of Chile. By combining the desire for a better world with the determination for concrete results, VE not only dreams of change; it creates change.
Learning Spanish Helps VE!
We recently received a generous donation from our partner, Tandem Santiago, a local language school. Tandem donates $5 for every student that enrolls in their program to VE.
We know the school provides great lessons because many of our volunteers have studied there. So if you’re looking to improve your Spanish, make sure you check out Tandem’s website, and you’ll be helping VE achieve its mission as well.
New Alumni T-shirt!
Check out the winning design of our alumni T-shirt competition. Congratulations to alumni volunteer Jen Spindler, from the Sept. 2010 class, whose T-shirt is now available to buy in the VE merchandise store.
Available in a range of colours in both women's and men's styles, make sure to get yours today. Remember $5 from every purchase goes to support VE's work.
Thank You NYU Stern!
Recently, NYU Stern´s MBA Executive Program students donated $2,000 USD to VE Global as a part of their upcoming trip to Chile! They chose VE due to the love and support we provide for children at-social risk and our commitment to having volunteers with different backgrounds from all over the world.
As a part of their visit, they will meet with VE staff and volunteers to learn more about how our organization works and what day to day life is like working as volunteers. We´re looking forward to their visit and getting to know them!
Alumni T-Shirt Competition
VE is creating a fresh T-shirt for all its alumni volunteers so we are launching a competition asking them to come up with an exciting new design.
Check out the details of the competition here. The winning T-shirt will be available to buy on our online merchandise store and the winner will receive one for free.
Get designing!
New Partnership with the YMCA
VE Global is excited to announce a new partnership with the Cumberland County YMCA of Maine, another organization passionate about working towards equality of opportunity for children.
With the YMCA’s generous support we will have the funding to implement a series of volunteer-led workshops to bring awareness of healthy living into the children´s lives more regularly. We will be able to continue providing healthy snacks at Liga, introducing the children to a greater variety of fruits and vegetables, juice without added sugar, and multi-grain, nutrient-rich bread. We will also now have incentives to reinforce positive behavior and participation at Liga de Deportes, such as special field trips or water bottles to take home after the event. Furthermore, this partnership will help spread cultural understanding by hosting a fun and interactive pen-pal like program with YMCA Cumberland County summer camp kids and the children we work with here in Chile.
Welcome Kristen and Hillary!
New Class: January 2012
Last night we had a Welcome Dinner for our 13 new volunteers who have travelled from Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the US to come and work for VE. We are excited to have them here!
Today is their first day of orientation where they will learn all about living in Santiago, but we have some useful tips to help them settle quickly into Chilean life:
1. Learn and use as many chilenismos as you can!
2. Check out La Vega for fresh fruit and vegetables at great prices.
3. Visit Emporio La Rosa to try the delicious ice cream.
A New Partnership: Be a Part Of It!
We have recently formed an exciting new partnership with UK-based company, Chileno. They sell handmade Chilean artifacts such as jewelery, accessories and bookmarks and a percentage of their profits go to help VE Global´s work here in Chile. Visit their website to see the full-range of beautiful products you can buy to support VE.

Help Raise $55,000 for Unite.Act.Engage. 2011
Our Unite.Act.Engage. 2011 campaign has been launched!
We´re aiming to raise $55,000 to support our work with children at-risk in Santiago. We run four different educational programs, ¡Vamos a Leer!, Festival de Arte, Liga de Deportes and English in Motion, which motivate our kids to get involved in new things, learn different skills and feel a sense of pride when their achievements are recognized.
We currently have volunteers working in eight institutions, creating fun activities, helping with homework, being loving and supportive mentors to over 300 kids. You can choose to honor a volunteer to recognise the work of one of our volunteers (past or present) individually. To hear how our work is valued by the service providers we support, read what they said about the impact of VE’s work.
Thank you for your support of VE Global!

A Grant for ¡Vamos a Leer!
Read it here, great news! VE Global recently won a grant (Fondo de Fortalecimiento para la Sociedad Civil) from the Chilean government to help fund our literacy program, ¡Vamos a Leer!
Through this program we help motivate children to find the joy in reading. They select their own books and we encourage them to finish. At the end of the summer, we host Carnaval to celebrate their achievements. This grant will help us improve our VE Global library and purchase more books for the children!
Reading Santiago's Children
VE is thrilled to participate with everyone at Texas A&M International University in Laredo who is reading Santiago's Children!
While the book gives readers an intimate look at what Steve Reifenberg experienced while living and working at an orphanage in Santiago in the 1980s, it also relates closely to many of the experiences current VE volunteers have today working with children in Chile.
VE Global Wins Canada Fund Grant
Wonderful news! We have won the 2011 Canada Fund grant, which will go to renewing the computer lab at Domingo Savio that was completely devastated after a robbery there earlier this year. The lab will have seven new laptops, an overhead projector and include extra security to help ensure it is secure. Additionally, VE will create educational ICT workshops for the children to develop their skills in word processing, email composition and online research and use.
Special thanks to Leith Passmore, VE volunteer, that found and helped write the grant!
